ESSEX — Three fugitives — a man and two horses — were rounded up Thursday by police officers working traffic enforcement details.
The first incident occurred at 5:47 p.m., when an officer operating radar on John Wise Avenue was approached by a person who said there were horses loose further down the road.
The officer and two bystanders rounded up the two horses, whose owner came from Apple Street to take them back to the barn. Animal control was notified of the incident during which one of the horses stepped on the officer's foot.
The third fugitive was captured by an officer working under a grant received from the Governor's Highway Safety Council to take part in the "Drunk Driving: Over the Limit, Under Arrest" enforcement campaign.
Officer James Romeos stopped a car for speeding at 8:39 p.m. He arrested the driver, Daniel A. Bubb, 43, of 41 Clinton Ave., St. James, N.Y., on charges of speeding, not having a license in possession and on a New York warrant for being a fugitive from justice.
He was arraigned on the charges Friday in Gloucester District Court.
Essex police will continue participating in the "Drunk Driving. Over the Limit, Under Arrest" campaign through the Labor Day weekend.
