Essex Police/Fire: No injuries reported in sinking

Essex Police/Fire

ESSEX — A boat owner and crew escaped injury when their vessel began sinking off Water Street Wednesday at around 7:30 a.m.

Police Chief Peter Silva, who also serves as harbormaster, responded to a call reporting that a boat was going under.

Silva added that there was also no risk of contaminants in the water; the owner of the 18- to 20-foot vessel was in the process of working on the boat when it began sinking.

Police notified National Grid when branches were on Apple Street power lines 8:50 a.m. Tuesday. The utility sent a crew to carry out repairs.
