A collection of paintings by local artist William Beal will be on sale at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Rockport, today from 3 to 5 p.m.
Pursuing his love of art, he became an artist member of both the Rockport and North Shore Art Associations. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the church, light refreshments will be served.
Artist designs Boston poster
Living up to Rockport’s reputation as a hub to all of the arts, a Rockporter has designed the poster for the 29th Boston Film Festival.
Jonathan Zuker of the Wishing Well Gallery on Tuna Wharf has painted the poster, which depicts a bird, donning a scarf and Buddy Holly-esque glasses and a director’s chair along a city skyline.
Spotlight on Haiti, Dominican
Two members of the Cape Ann Community will be discussing their experiences as visitors to Haiti and the Dominican Republic on Sunday, Nov. 3 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Rockport, at 4 Cleaves St.
Rockporter Mary Ann Camp, a registered nurse, has been a frequent volunteer at the Partners in Development Medical Center in Blanchard, Haiti, since the devastating earthquake in January of 2012.
She will speak about the current situation and needs, including the urgent need for children’s sponsors, as well as the progress that has been made since the earthquake.
Heidi Wakeman of Gloucester, a Spanish teacher in the Rockport schools, will offer information on her trip to the Dominican Republic as an educational envoy with Friends Beyond Borders. Light refreshments will be served following the talks, all are welcome.
RMS’ top students
Rockport Middle School has announced its students of the month for September.
The Grade 6 student of the month is Olivia Theriault, who is recognized for positive attitude, her leadership in the classroom, her superior effort, and her courteous and polite manner.
