After a season of "idea development," and three months out for bid, not a single developer has put forward a formal bid for the vacant lot at 65 Rogers Street.
The city of Gloucester's I-4 C-2 parcel went out for bid last November and the bidding period officially closed at 11:30 this morning.
Ten companies and individuals expressed interest in the site, but none of them put forward a final proposal, which needed to include a $10,000 commitment deposit and asked for a business plan that would generate $70,000 in annual tax revenue for the city. The request for proposals also emphasized that the city intended to lease, not sell, the site.
City now plan to get back to those companies that took out papers to find out why they didn't follow through with an application.
"We need to find out what the inhibitors were," Donna Compton, the city's purchasing agent, said this morning.
Compton said the city will send each of the companies a letter asking them why they didn't actively pursue the property. That move, she said, will give the city the information it needs to formulate its next steps for the property, which the city acquired for a total of $1.5 million with the aid of a $750,000 state grant in June 2010.
