ESSEX — Gaybrook Garage on Weestern Avenue helped make some movie magic for the upcoming independent drama "Being Dead."
Cast and crew shot two scenes: one by the gas pumps and another in the office area.
Gaybrook Owner Mike Crowley said he didn't know what the scenes were about, but the actors appeared to be playing members of a family.
"When I was out, they asked my wife who was behind the counter at the time to have a quick role," he said. "She's kind of an extra in the movie now."
Another local didn't know what was going on either and called police to report "suspicious activity" happening at the garage Saturday around 8:30 p.m.
The movie, based on the 1999 novel by Jim Crace, is about a murdered middle-aged couple and the events leading up to the crime that sealed their fate.
