On June 1, Gloucester’s American Legion Post held its Centennial Dance in the Legion Memorial Hall on Washington Street. Margaret Bouchie, president of the Post 3’s Auxiliary served as master of ceremonies. The dance featured music by The Cape Ann Big Band, and many attendees wore period dress from the 1920s to the 1970s, with some veterans in uniform. The band played popular pieces from the World War I and World War II eras, progressing through the 1950s and 1960s, to the delight of the attendees.

Honored guests included Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr and Gloucester's director of veterans services, Adam Curcuru. Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken presided as the judge for the best-dressed competition. The mayor selected Rita Budrow as the female winner for her “daring in 1960s pants suit.” For the best-dressed male, she selected Lt. Col. Paul Krueger in his mess dress uniform.
