MANCHESTER — About 1,000 people kicked off their Independence Day celebrations with the Manchester-Essex Rotary Club's annual Red, White & Blue breakfast this weekend.

Saturday's breakfast was the Rotary's 30th year hosting the morning meal at the Chowder House on Tuck's Point. Patrons were treated to pancakes flipped by state legislators Bruce Tarr and Brad Hill among others, and topped with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream, as well as syrup, eggs, bacon, home fries, juice, milk and coffee.

The breakfast raises money for the Rotary's annual Red, White & Blue Scholarships, which are presented to graduating high school seniors from Essex and Manchester who have demonstrated dedication to community service.
