Richard Gaines/Gloucester Daily Times The strong winds blew the rubber roof off of O'Maley Middle School in Gloucester around 3:30 this afternoon. City police and firefighters cleared the area and the school as well as the Dorothy Talbot rink have been closed until further notice.

The rubber membrane covering the flat roof of the O'Maley Middle School Auditorium was blown off this afternoon and flipped over so that it is hanging from the side of the brick building like a floppy shower curtain.

The school and the skating rink in a connected section of the school have been closed until further notice.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools Brian Tarr said a repair effort will begin tomorrow and that efforts were already under way to cover the skylight opening that was pulled off by the rubber roof.

No injuries were reported from the wind-driven mishap at the school which was built in the early 1970s.
