5 things to do this weekend

Gloucester Stage Company,  267 East Main St., presents comic thriller "The 39 Steps," an award-winning play adapted for stage by Patrick Barlow based on the 1915 novel by John Buchan and1935 movie by Alfred Hitchcock. Generous Gardeners holds its Garden Tour at Bass Rocks this Saturday, July 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  This is a self-guided walking tour, rain or shine, of three miles round-trip from Stop & Shop, 6 Thatcher Road, Gloucester. Free mug-up for the Phyllis A Marine Association on Saturday, July 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gloucester Marine Railways, 81 Rocky Neck Ave., Gloucester. Join the nonprofit's volunteers to celebrate the 94th birthday year of the one of Gloucester's oldest fishing vessels — the Phyllis A. The organization also is seeking "Michigan Bears," a group of men who brought the gillnet fishing industry to Gloucester from Charlevoix, Michigan. For more information, visit phyllis-a.org.

Myschyffe Managed, The Penniless Jacks, and the Ladies of Integrity, Aristocracy, Repute, and Society perform at Hammond Castle, 80 Hesperus Ave., Gloucester, on Sunday, July 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The groups will fill the halls and grounds with melodies for visitors during self-guided castle tours. Tickets, $15, at the door or in advance at www.hammondcastle.org.
