Gloucester and Massachusetts State Police have recovered a body at Haskell Pond off Route 128 in West Gloucester, believed to be that of a Bedford man who was reported missing last night and has been the subject of an extensive search throughout the day today.
Gloucester Police had previously identified the subject of the search as Jason Samoylenko, 49, of Bedford. Sources had said that Samoylenko regularly visits the area to go hunting and/or hiking in Dogtown. According to reports, his truck had been found abandoned along Route 128 on Monday, and state police had tagged the vehicle as such. Later Monday night, however, Samoylenko's family and friends reported him as missing, and authorities launched a search early tbis morning.
Police using All-Terrain Vehicle units, and with assistance from the state police Crime Prevention and Control, or CPAC, units and search dogs, had been combing areas off ROute 128 and Forest Lane since before 9 a.m. State police were also using an air-wing helicopter as part of the search, while authorities initially established a command post for the search along Forest Lane, then moved it to West Parish School on Concord Street.
