Girls lax pairings
The MIAA released its boys and girls lacrosse brackets on Friday, and the Manchester Essex girls are the only team left standing on Cape Ann.
The Hornets finished the regular season with a record of 12-5 and are the No. 4 seed in Division 2 North. They will host No. 13 Lowell Catholic (9-9) on Tuesday at Hyland Field (5 p.m.).
Tuesday’s winner will advance to the sectional quarterfinals against the winner of the first round matchup between No. 5 St. Mary’s (16-4) and No. 12 Winthrop (12-7). No. 1 Ipswich and No. 8 Austin Prep are also teams to look out for on the Hornet’s side of the bracket.
No. 2 Swampscott and No. 3 Newburyport are the top seeds on the other side of the Division 2 North bracket.
The MIAA also released its girls and boys tennis brackets on Friday, and just like lacrosse, the Manchester Essex girls are the lone Cape Ann representative.
The 14-0 Hornets, who are the defending Division 3 State champs, earned the No. 2 seed in Division 3 North and a first round bye. They will take on the winner of Sunday’s first round match between No. 7 Amesbury (12-6) and No. 10 St. Joseph’s Prep (9-7) in the Division 3 North Quarterfinals, date and time TBA.
