Tournament bound Hornets

The Manchester Essex softball team qualified for the state tournament with a 5-3 win at Georgetown on Wednesday.

The Hornets improve to 10-9 on the season and have clinched a least a share of second place in the Cape Ann League Baker Division.

Sydney Levasseur went 4-for-4 with a home run and turned in a complete game on the mound to earn the win. Claire Gendron’s two-run homer gave the Hornets the lead early and Molly Field followed with a solo shot.

The Hornets finish up the regular season on Saturday at home against Rockport (6:30 p.m.).

Anderson tosses no-hitter

The Rockport softball team pounded Notre Dame Academy on Wednesday, 13-1, with freshman pitcher Kelsea Anderson pitching a no-hitter.

Anderson struck out nine in the win as Rockport improves to 7-12 on the season. Every Rockport starter had at least one hit in the win.
