It has been a trying season for the Manchester Essex football team, as low participation numbers saw the team cancel the first two games of the season and forfeit last week’s game with Amesbury.

On Thursday against Chelsea, however, the Hornets put it all together to grab their first win in convincing fashion, 34-0 at Hyland Field.

Playing in the Division 7 consolation round, Manchester Essex dominated from start to finish, in every phase of the game to improve to 1-4 on the season.

“We hadn’t played a full quarter all season but tonight we played a full 44 minutes,” Hornets head coach Jeff Hutton said. “The kids played well and they deserve this win. Hopefully this gives us confidence going forward.”

Manchester Essex jumped right out to a lead with a touchdown on its first two possessions.

Senior captain Bobby Beardsley’s 11-yard run, which was set up by his 29-yard run earlier in the drive, made it 6-0. Gavin Glass plunged in from two-yards away on the ensuing drive and quarterback Will Levendusky hit A.J. Pallazola for the conversion to extend the lead to 14-0 after one.

Levendusky took it himself for a two-yard score on the next Manchester Essex drive and then hit Tristan Nowak for a 12-yard score to make it 26-0 at the break.

The Manchester Essex defense was stellar on the day as Nowak’s score was set up by a fumble recovery on the previous play. Chelsea was never in position to put any points on the board. The visitors finished the game with just seven yards of offense and two turnovers.

“We got some turnovers and we didn’t commit any, that was key,” Hutton said.

Glass added a 13-yard touchdown in the fourth and Levendusky added the conversion to cap the scoring at 34-0.

Manchester Essex now awaits its consolation round opponent next week. Week 9 games will be announced after the sectional quarterfinals conclude this weekend.
